Alexander Ovechkin: “I’m Not Panicking”

After the game against New Jersey, Washington Forward Alexander Ovechkin praised his teammate Alexander Semin on his double.

“Everybody has their moments” said Ovechkin after the game “but some people make better use of them than others. Attaboy, Sema! You’ve grabbed the courage. The main thing right now is to make points for the team, and not be worried about who is getting how many goals.”

Yes, you have already said that you would be happy to just make one goal as long as the team made it to the play-offs.

“And I’ve already made two!”

Yes, you made two. But you yourself understand perfectly well that if you only make two goals, then your team won’t make it to the play-offs. Is there really no desire to change something in your game?

“Change how? I have to play like I know how to play. I’m creating opportunities, I just haven’t been able to capitalize on them. But I’m not panicking.”

And what is it like to be the second Alexander on the team?

“Nothing to it, it’s all good. I'm happy for Sema and for the team.”

False modesty doesn’t become you. You aren’t the type to quietly give up the spotlight and step back into the shadows.

"I’m not going anywhere. Don’t worry, goals will come.”
