On this page you will find all of the wonderful, wacky videos that highlight Alex’s off-season antics. I actually found all of these quite by accident, just trolling through the Russian language side of the web in search of off-season news.
This first video is by far the most popular-- Alex on the Russian television show “ТЫ! Не поверишь” (You won’t believe it!)-- the closest thing to it in the states that I can think of is Talk Soup--only a little more wackier. It is a fast-paced show dealing with celebrities, and is hosted by а comedian and a midget. This episode was from 2006 (I just feel I need to keep saying that, as some people think this happened last summer), and in it Alex talks about his ideal woman-- his “temple of poetry”. The video was so popular that it was picked up as the NHL.com “Pucked-Up Video of the Week” and introduced by none other than Carrie Milbank. Well, to be honest, credit was given a week later after a hue and cry was taken up by PuckDaddy and JP about the NHL not giving proper credit at the very first. I’m just happy to have my five seconds of fame-- with Carrie Milbank, no less.
This next set of videos is also from 2006, when Alex participated in a popular television game show “Большие Гонки” (The Great Race). This is actually the Russian broadcast of the long-running French game show “Intervilles“, and these shows were actually filmed in France. The premise of the show is that contestants from various countries participate in wacky feats of strength and endurance. Just how wacky? Judge for yourselves.
In this video clip, Alex has to dress up in a large waiter outfit and race to deliver a fake ice-cream cone. I particularly liked this video for two reasons-- one, it actually focuses on Alex himself and his desire to play this particular game, and two--I couldn’t help but make an obvious comment on the costumes themselves, and three--okay, there are three reasons — and this is probably of most interest to the ladies-- in the last minute or so Alex shows more skin than I’ve seen in any other footage.
This clip is a plushophile’s dream. Alex as the big, bad wolf— hunting wabbits!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hang above a fast moving treadmill and have a beautiful woman try to dress you while running backwards on said treadmill? Well Alex can mark that off his bucket list.
Ovechkin as Romeo? Dragging his Juliet across an obstacle course caveman-style? To climb a bridge built by sumo wrestlers? Sure! Why not?
Alex shows some real athletic ability in this game, where he has to jump across a pool on some floating platforms, then reach overhead to strike a gong in the middle of the pool.
Alex as a shark? Well, at least he’s not a penguin!
Alex has been connected with many girlfriends in the press, and one name comes up quite often-- former Miss Russia Victoria Lopyreva. In this video, Victoria is on the set of a music video of Russian Pop Star Vlad Topalov, and guess who she talked into a cameo appearance?
The final version of the video was much less interesting, IMHO, than Vickie’s video.
And finally, here is a little video which has an interesting tidbit in the middle of it-- Victoria is packing for a trip, and around the 2:45 mark she admits that there is one piece of clothing she cannot leave home without-- her Washington Capitals baseball cap.
