To all the girls-- Happy Holiday!!
Location: Boston
mood: energetic
Dear Ladies and Girls!!
I send you my warmest congratulations on this remarkable spring holiday,
the 8th of March (*N.B. International Women's Day*). I wish you the best
of health, happiness and may you always remain as beautiful as you are
now. You know, the most beautiful women are in Russia!
Right now I am alone in the States, so I am not able to buy any gifts,
but I absolutely will call home and offer my congratulations. Which, I
guess, I am already doing through my blog :)))
As usual, time is always in short supply:)) Tomorrow we play Boston, but
I will try to answer a few of your questions and tell you a little bit
about what is going on.
First- some hockey news. With the arrival of Sergei Fedorov and Matt
Cooke to Washington, we have significantly strengthened. They have
brought experience and mastery to our game, which we needed. Now we have
two impact components--Victor Kozlov has been added to my line with
Backstrom, and the Czech Tomas Fleischmann is playing with Semin and
Fedorov. I am very happy with these changes-- we have become
significantly stronger. Goalie Crystobal Huet received a slight injury,
but he has already recovered and for sure will be playing until the end
of the championship.
I have heard that the North American journalists have predicted 70 goals
in the regular season for me. Is this realistic? I think that anything
is possible, but reaching that mark is not my goal. I only have one
mission-- get to the play offs.
Therefore, I apologize to those who keep asking me about the Russian
National Team and the World Championship-- I don't have any thoughts
about that right now. Making our way into the Stanley Cup is the dream
of our entire team right now, which we absolutely will do. As far as the
possibility of a limitation or inability for Russian NHL players to make
it to the Russian National team, I'm not in any position to say-- I
don't have any information on it. This will really only be clear right
before the beginning of the playoffs.
Getting to the end of the championships is getting really difficult. All
the teams are tired, and many of them are assured a spot, so they are
just playing defense, trying to make as few mistakes as possible. All
the games at the end are very fundamental and difficult. For sure the
Bruins, who have given up 19 goals in their last three games will give a
real fight.
I am not following the Russian Superleague playoffs. Someone told me,
though, that Yagr called Omsk and gave his support to Avangard, and
thanks to that the Omski's won. I haven't thought about calling Dynamo
yet-- I am absolutely positive that Dynamo will be just fine without
hearing from me.
And finally, I'll answer a few questions.
john_19, you wrote that you are a 13 year old hockey player, not
making the team because your trainer has decided to play his friends'
sons. I have never experienced that in my career, but I have heard about
it. I can only tell you one thing--leave that team!! This will give you
a chance to grow and advance, which you will never get with your current
trainer.
a_zakirov, the CCM Guts & Glory tour was last year, and as far as
what is going to happen in the future I just don't know-- this will be
clearer after the end of the championships.
That's it and I'm outta here. :)) Thanks everyone for your questions and
comments. I hope that you will keep supporting me and Washington. To all
the members of the fairer sex-- let me wish you one more time a happy
holiday! Always yours, Sasha Ovechkin:))

P.S. This is my hat trick- 50th, 51st and 52nd goals of the season :))
